Folk religion in Japan : continuity and change
This book has the rare value of combining an excellent scholarly work with a clear and disciplined analysis of [a] very complex subject; Japanese folk religion is a phenomenon which is extremely diverse in character and difficult to define in precise terms. We are particularly grateful to the author for making available in English the findings of his pioneering researches which have already been presented in outstanding Japanese publications. There is no doubt that his effort will be cordially welcomed by historians of religions, as well as by anthropologists, ethnologists, folklore specialists, and students of Japanese society, all of whom will find in this work something to enrich their knowledge.
